Broadway Limited Imports is proud to expand our line of HO-scale Union Pacific passenger cars with the heavily requested Howard Fogg, a must-have if you model steam excursions.
The Howard Fogg has served on many of UP’s steam excursions and stands out on the Heritage Fleet roster as the railroad’s last remaining boiler car.
Built in 1949 by American Car & Foundry as baggage-dormitory No. 6006, the car was converted to boiler-baggage-dorm No. 304 in 1962. It was renumbered No. 209 in 1987 and assigned to the UP Heritage Fleet in 1990. In 1996, it was named Howard Fogg in honor of the renowned railroad artist following his passing. In 2000, the car was converted to boiler-dorm-HEP (Head End Power), adding an electric generator to supply power to the passenger cars.
The Howard Fogg is still used by the UP Steam Team. Its onboard steam generator can provide steam when maintenance is required while No. 844 or No. 4014 is on the road, and it also supported No. 3985 when that locomotive was part of UP’s excursion roster. For the crew’s use on extended trips, the car includes three sleeping rooms, a shower, a laundry room, and a small lounge area.
In this first production run, we are offering the Howard Fogg in three era-specific appearances: 1997–2004, 2010–2019, and 2021–2026. A fourth version will feature the America250 artwork, accurately matching the car’s appearance during Big Boy No. 4014’s cross-country tour. For something different, we are also offering a Two-Tone Gray fantasy appearance, a scheme the car never wore in real life but one that pairs perfectly with other two-tone gray equipment. For those who want a personalized touch, a primer-gray version is also available, perfect for painting and customizing to match your own railroad. All versions will be available with or without sound, and the prototype-based versions include era-specific details.
