The Broadway Flyer: December 2025

Welcome to the December edition of The Broadway Flyer! Curtis here from Broadway Limited Imports. From all of us at BLI, we wish you a happy holiday season and Merry Christmas to all. This newsletter will include a message from Ken Silvestri, upcoming order deadlines arriving in 2026 and of course answering your questions!

Up first, Ken Silvestri wanted to share a special holiday message with a video!

Happy Holidays, Model Railroaders!

I wanted to share a video I made a few years ago that still captures everything I love about this time of year. The holiday season is always special, and it’s especially rewarding to see so many of you at shows and events.

As we look ahead, we’re excited to bring even more great trains your way in the coming year.

Thank you all for your continued support. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season spent with your loved ones!

AT&SF/BNSF "William Barstow Strong", HO scale

Incase you missed it, at Trainfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin we announced the newest addition to our HO scale business car offerings. This time a new business car that is accurate for Santa Fe and BNSF modelers out there. Introducing in HO scale, the "William Barstow Strong" theater car!

PHOTO ABOVE: In this photo by Steven Vincent, Diner 1396—sister car to the William Barstow Strong—is en route to the California State Railroad Museum, where it was used to create the exterior of a walk-up display featuring a diner interior.

About the prototype: ATSF Theatre lounge car #89 began its life as ATSF Diner #1397, built by Budd in 1940 for the El Capitan. It was converted to a Club Lounge Diner in 1952 for the San Diegan where it ran until 1954. It was then transferred to the Oil Flyer and Tulsan. Its final years were spent in service between Ash Fort and Phoenix. After Amtrak took over passenger operations, it went into storage in Topeka.

PHOTO ABOVE: In this 1979 photo by Ted Brumberg, the William Barstow Strong displays its distinctive nuclear “Track Inspection Car” logo at Verdemont, California.

In 1974-5 it was rebuilt to become a Theater-Track Inspection car #89. As a part of Santa Fe’s Executive Fleet, it was the showpiece tail car for many corporate, sales, and promotional trips. It could be found behind the Rose Parade Special, behind the 3751 tour of the system, loaded with railfans at Topeka Railroad Days, or full of corporate executives from whom the railroad sought business. Michael Haverty named the car the William Barstow Strong in the late 1980s in honor of Santa Fe’s visionary president in the 1880s.

After the 1995 merger with the Burlington Northern, the car was renumbered #32 for the BNSF Executive Fleet and has since worn four different paint schemes. Today it remains in service as the BNSF "William B. Strong".

In our first production run, we are building 6 different types of the car in multiple appearances over the course of it’s life. Each model boasts both road specific and era-specific details! Ensuring that your BNSF or AT&SF theater car is the perfect fit for their office car special!

Model Features:

  • Unique interiors per the prototype
  • All cars have prototypically accurate trucks
  • Individually controlled light functions
  • Prototypically accurate car-body
  • Prototypically accurate underbody details, including warning label placements where accurate
  • Era-Specific light packages, all of which are individually controlled
  • Many separately applied details including hand rails, and antenna arrangement (where appropriate)
  • Couplers: (2) operating Kadee
  • Compatible Tracks: Code 70, 83, and 100 rail
  • Minimum Operating Radius: 18 inches

Norfolk Southern "Landmark Series" EMD SD70ACe, N scale

In November 2025, Norfolk Southern unveiled the first two locomotives in their new “Landmark Series,” a special lineup honoring the cities that shaped the railroad’s history. The debut units—Birmingham and Atlanta—were painted at the railroad’s Juniata Locomotive Shops and feature striking, modern commemorative designs.

If you are a modeler of Norfolk Southern, you are going to want these locomotives to haul your railroads freight and leading Office Car Special (OCS) trains across the NS system.

These models have been extremely popular early on and we don't want you to miss out on these! Place your pre-order with your preferred dealer today!

Customer Q&A:

The last section of The Broadway Flyer is all about you—our amazing customers! Each month, we reach out through social media and email to gather your questions. This month, we received a great selection from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to feature in this section!

Q: "Given that the N Scale 2-8-0 will be ground up tooling, is it possible to finally include an option of headlights in the center of the smokebox? It would cover a wide variety of locomotives in that position." – Nick on Facebook

A: It’s certainly an option. The headlight position and Vanderbilt tenders are on our radar as potential tooling additions for these locomotives; however, we have not explored those options yet, as our current focus is on the first production run.

Q: "Would BLI be interested in doing a Reading G3 Pacific? This would be a more flexible model that can fill a lot of motive power needs outside of brass. It’s very hard to acquire an early Mantua G3 or NJCB. A BLI G3 would be a welcome mid-size steam locomotive. You've done the T1, but it’s time for the G-3!" – Kevin on Facebook

A: We would be open to looking into the Reading G3 Pacific! However, like other steam locomotives we’ve produced, we want to be sure there is sufficient demand to justify a production run. That’s why our Product Suggestion Portal plays such an important role in collecting data on the projects modelers want most.

Q: "Any updates on the HO scale DLMX 4219 aux tenders?" – Chase on Facebook

A: We don’t have any updates on the tender at this time. As soon as we do, we’ll be sure to share them!

Q: "Which UP business cars are next in line?" – Brady on Facebook

A: We haven’t determined the next UP business car yet. Once the Lone Star and Lincoln cars are delivered, we’ll take a closer look at what comes next.

Q: "On the business car theme, given that they appear to be fairly popular items, is there any consideration of less modern business cars like Milwaukee’s platform cars Milwaukee and Montana, or cars like SP 150 Sunset?" – Bradley on Facebook

A: If we see enough requests showing strong demand for the Milwaukee Road cars, we would certainly consider them. At this time, however, we haven’t seen enough interest to justify a production run.

Q: "Is there any interest in manufacturing cabooses in the future?" – Gregory on Facebook

A: There is! While we don’t currently have any cabooses in development, we’d love to hear your ideas. If there’s a specific caboose you’d like to see, consider submitting it through our Product Suggestion Portal.

Q: "How is progress on the ES class been going?" – Cameron on Facebook

A: Progress on the ES class has been steady but gradual. Brass-Hybrid models take a bit longer, as the boilers and tenders are hand-crafted. Once the B&A, Lima, and Illinois Central Berkshires move closer to production, we should begin seeing a sample of the ES arrive from the factory.

Q: "When can we expect a CB&Q locomotive to be announced?" – Dave on Facebook

A: The next CB&Q-specific locomotive is the EMD E5. We’re currently waiting on some design revisions to be completed. At this time, we don’t have a timeline for the official announcement.

Q: "Have you considered any exploration into the HOn3 market? There are no manufacturers currently providing RTR rolling stock, making it ripe for the picking. IMHO, you should look into doing a Rio Grande K-37 first. People would go nuts!" – Johnny on Facebook

A: Great question! We’ve given it some thought, but at this time we don’t see the HOn3 market as being strong enough. That said, we hope this changes in the future, as there are many unique and exciting narrow-gauge prototypes out there.

Q: "When is the next N scale light Mikado release? Still planning to run some black Southern freight schemes?" – Jacob on Facebook

A: We’re planning to announce a new run of N scale Mikados in 2026! Several variations are in the works, including Southern 4501.

Q: "Since BLI is now doing William Barstow Strong in plastic, have there been any thoughts about doing ATSF #53 (Mountainair Business Car) and ATSF #62 (Director’s Club Lounge) as well?" – @anthony_angelici on Instagram

A: As with other projects, we’ll first need to see how sales of the William Barstow Strong perform before moving forward with additional cars. Once we have that data, we can better determine which cars could follow.

Q: "Will you be doing the rest of the UP heritage fleet? Or would you at least consider doing the sleepers so we have correct sleepers?" – @siksean_2727 on Instagram

A: We haven’t begun exploring the rest of the UP heritage fleet just yet. For now, our focus remains on unique cars such as the Power Cars and Observation Cars.

Q: "Has BLI ever considered a line of locomotives that are weathered prototypical to the road number of a given model?" – @mustachemike802 on YouTube

A: We haven’t pursued that approach. Many customers enjoy weathering their models in their own unique styles, and we frequently see some fantastic results shared with us. Because of this, we feel it’s best to allow modelers the freedom to weather their locomotives exactly how they like.

Q: "Would Broadway Limited ever consider tackling such projects in the sphere of American tank engines?" – @EndlessFilmLimited on YouTube

A: We’re certainly open to it, but we’d need to see stronger demand from the market. If you—and other modelers—would like to see these locomotives produced, we encourage you to submit your ideas through our Product Suggestion Portal. The portal is closely monitored by our staff and plays a major role in guiding future projects.

That wraps up this month’s edition of The Broadway Flyer! Thank you all for your continued support!

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones! We are going to start off 2026 with several new project announcements!

Happy Railroading!
