Even though it is only September, October will be here before you know it! We've got 2 incredibly detailed steam locomotives that have order deadlines on October 30th that you are going to want to get your hands on.
First up, let's take a look at the Southern Pacific GS-4!
![]() |
ABOVE: May 2001 saw Southern Pacific 4449 in action on a rare and memorable two-day excursion. The route traced the north shore of the Columbia River from Portland to Kennewick before continuing northwest to Yakima for an overnight layover—a treat for fans and photographers alike.
Our model accurately represents the locomotive in it's 2001 appearance, featuring the re-lettered locomotive following it's duties pulling several BNSF Employee Appreciation Specials in the year 2000.

ABOVE: For those modeling the Southern Pacific during the transition from steam to diesel, these locomotives are a perfect fit—both historically and visually. This is a image of a few features and road specific details on our model. In addition to this half daylight version, we are also bringing an all black version to market.

Finally, we wanted to showcase our very first production run of the Santa Fe 3460 Class “Super Hudsons”. These locomotives will be arriving in the Spring of 2026.
![]() |
ABOVE: One of the most remarkable achievements in steam railroading came in December 1937, when locomotive #3461 set a world record for the longest non-stop run by a steam engine—traveling an astonishing 2,227 miles from Los Angeles to Chicago with no maintenance beyond five refueling stops. It was assigned to the Fast Mail Express, showcasing both the reliability and endurance of this class.
![]() |
ABOVE: Only one of these locomotives was preserved and it remains on display in Topeka, Kansas. Efforts are currently underway by volunteers from the nonprofit Kaw Valley Rail Heritage Conservancy to restore the locomotive, with the hope of relocating it to a new site in Topeka in the future.

ABOVE: Inspired by paint schemes of Santa Fe 1870's era steam locomotives, our Ornate fantasy paint scheme would look great leading some heavyweight passenger cars or Christmas cars!
Whether you're modeling Santa Fe passenger service in its prime or looking for a striking steam locomotive with a story to tell, the 3460 Class is a perfect addition to your HO scale roster!

Customer Q&A: |
The last section of The Broadway Flyer is all about you, our amazing customers! Every month, we reach out through social media and email, inviting you to send in your questions—and you never disappoint. Whether you're curious about upcoming releases, production timelines, or just wondering what’s next, we love hearing from you. We've gathered a fresh batch of questions, and we’re excited to dive in and share some answers!
Q: "Do you have any plans to build Strasburg Railroad 90 or the other Baldwin 12-42-f decapods?" - @williambabcoke248 on YouTube A: At this time, Strasburg 90 isn’t in the works. We just haven’t seen enough demand from customers yet. That said, if Strasburg 90 is something you’d love to see us produce, please let us know through our Product Suggestion Portal! If interest grows, it could definitely move up the list. Q: "Any update about the PRR S1? It was scheduled for November 2025 but now the ETA is 2026? Did you encounter some problems?" - @TobiasL1000 on YouTube A: The project is moving along! Our factory expects to send us a sample sometime this fall. Like most of our Brass-Hybrid projects, it’s taking a little longer than expected since the boilers and tenders are hand-built. With several Hybrids in the pipeline, the factory prefers to focus on one at a time to ensure top quality. Q: "How’s the Frisco 1522 moving along? Will it include the SLSTA car set?" - @Prr_production on YouTube A: As we mentioned last week, the Frisco 1522 (and several other projects) were delayed when we paused design work due to high tariff costs. Now that tariffs have come down from where they were in April, we’ve restarted design work on the locomotive. As for the SLSTA cars—we can’t commit to producing them just yet. First, we’d like to see how locomotive sales perform. Q: "CB&Q steam or passenger cars?" - Nick on Facebook A: We do have CB&Q steam locomotives on our radar, though we haven’t started research or data collection yet. As for passenger cars, a few are under consideration, but we’d like to see how sales of our CB&Q E5s go before moving forward. Q: "Any plans for the other generator cars for the Union Pacific Heritage Fleet?" - Ben on Facebook A: Yes! We’ve begun gathering data on the Union Pacific "Howard Fogg" steam support car. There’s no set timeline for an announcement yet, but work has started. We are open to doing other cars of Union Pacific's Heritage Fleet as long as demand remains strong. |

Q: "Any consideration of modeling any subclass of the Eries Berkshires?" - Jacob on Facebook A: This one will make a certain Facebook friend (CJ) smile! The Erie berks are definitely a locomotive we’d like to produce. However right now, we’re just not confident about market demand. But if you’d like to see them happen, please fill out our Product Suggestion Portal—the more demand, the higher it moves up the list! Q: "Have the sales of the B6sb met or exceeded your expectations? If so, can we expect more smaller steam in the future, like an 0-8-0 perhaps?" - Daniel on Facebook A: We were very pleased with B6sb sales! And yes—we do have other small steam locomotives in the works. We just can’t share the specifics quite yet. Q: "Will you do a N scale release of mikados and pacifics with the headlight at the top of the boiler and maybe with specific railroad emblems/numberboards?" - Freddy on Facebook A: We’re looking into modifying our N scale USRA Mikados and Pacifics to include Vanderbilt tenders and high-mounted headlights. Numberboard placement will depend on the prototype and tooling costs. Q: "In the January 2024 newsletter, y’all mentioned you’d eventually like to make an N-scale version of the Southern Pacific GS-4… Are y’all still planning to do this sometime in the near future?" - Mary on Facebook A: Yes—we still plan to produce several N scale locomotives we’ve teased. That said, we can only commit to a limited number of N scale steam projects at a time, since they’re so costly to produce. Q: "Will your next run of GP35s/GP30s have any unique paint schemes like the Eastern Idaho Railroad or Watco?" - Luke on Facebook A: Smaller shortline railroads like Eastern Idaho are usually best suited for dealer-specific custom runs rather than full production. For broader runs, we tend to focus on paint schemes with stronger overall demand. Q: "Any chance of doing accurate sleepers to go with the Union Pacific business cars?" - Dalton on Facebook A: At the moment, we don’t plan on producing UP Business Car sleepers, domes, diners, or coaches. That could change if demand increases, but right now our focus is on specialty cars that haven’t yet been done in HO plastic. Q: "How far along is the development for CR Theater Car #9? Is there an expected release date?" - Dave on Facebook A: We’ve just sent the data package to our designers! Designs should begin relatively soon. There’s still a long way to go before we’re ready for an announcement, so no timeline just yet. It's coming! Q: "Would you guys consider making more road-specific small steam?" - @octanbricks on Instagram A: Yes! As mentioned earlier, there are plenty of road-specific steam locomotives we’d love to make, and are already working on. Stay tuned! Q: "Are you guys going to make the Norfolk and Western Class A 2-6-6-4 in HO Scale for a Conductor’s Club engine?" - @carson_the_goat_casey on Instagram A: We can’t reveal next year’s Conductor’s Club locomotive just yet, but we’ll be making the announcement this fall! Q: "Southern Pacific Business Car 'Sunset' has only been done in brass and is extremely hard to find. Is there any chance this car could be produced in the next year or two?" - @anthony_angelici on Instagram A: It’s possible we could start design work within the next year or two, but production would most likely be later. We also have several other business car projects ahead of it in the pipeline. Q: "Are you going to make in N scale Santa Fe 2900 Class 4-8-4s and SP GS-4s skirted and deskirted. Along with HO Santa Fe 2-10-4s like 5011 class" - castromarty04 on Instagram A: Possibly! Before we determine if a steam locomotive is a good candidate for N scale, we want to see how they do in HO first. If both models sell well in HO, we can look into bringing them to N scale. That wraps up this month’s edition of The Broadway Flyer! Thank you all for your continued support—and keep those questions coming on social media and via email. We look forward to seeing you at a few upcoming shows
Have a fantastic September, and until next time…
Happy Railroading!
