Model Spotlight: N Scale F3's and F7's
Besides certain steam locomotives, one of the first things that come to mind regarding the "golden age of railroading" is F-units. F-units were a line of diesel-electric locomotives produced between November 1939 and November 1960 by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and General Motors-Diesel Division.
F-units were originally designed for freight service, although many pulled short-distance, mainly daytime passenger trains. Some carriers even equipped small numbers of their F-units with steam generators for long-haul passenger service.
The F-units were the most successful "first-generation" road diesel locomotives in North America and were largely responsible for replacing steam locomotives in road freight service. Prior to that, diesel units were primarily built as switcher locomotives and used only in rail yards.
Our N Scale models are perfect representations of these workhorses, offered in both Paragon4 and Stealth series. They are sure to evoke great memories and create new ones.
For the F3's, we are modeling A and B-units from eight railroads, featuring prototypically accurate road numbers and paint schemes. We offer A-B sets with Powered A-units (with Paragon4 Sound) and unpowered B-units, as well as separate single A and B-units (where appropriate) with our full Paragon4 DC/DCC/Sound system. All of our models include road-specific details and lighting. The Stealth Series includes No-Sound/DCC-Ready single A-units and single B-units, also with road-specific details.
Road-specific details for our models include:
- Pilot prototypical for the paint scheme
- Operating Mars Light where prototypical
- Small horizontal and large 45-degree number boards
- Prototypical horn
- Water fill hatch location
- Sand fill hatch location
- Dynamic brake where prototypical
- Accurate cooling fans and exhaust hatch per prototype
- Winterization hatch present where prototypically accurate
- Multiple MU door options on the front of the model

These """ N""" trains are sweet trains . What I need to know is What Size or Scale train do I need to buy that will be the perfect size for my future lay out? I will be using Hot Wheels and Match box size vehicles for the communities in my layout. What scale train would be the best fit for my layout?.
