In The News:

We know you are excited to get our upcoming business cars in HO scale onto your layouts. Some of you at the shows we've attended have asked us how the lighting functions will be controlled. Originally, we planned to use a magnetic wand, but our factory introduced us to some new technology that we think you will love. The lighting features will be controlled by the simple touch of your fingers! Curtis has been busy making videos, and he demonstrates how these sensors and technology will work in these cars. Click the video below to check it out!

We hope you weren't impacted by the Delta or United delays a few weeks ago. Curtis experienced this firsthand on his way back from St. Louis. While waiting for his flight, which was delayed for the fifth time, he took the opportunity to review some "product research" photos he snapped at the National Museum of Transportation. Here are some of the candidates that caught his eye.

A lot of you at the St.Louis RPM asked for Frisco 1522! Seems like a good candidate for a Brass-Hybrid, don't you think?!

With Curtis being a fan of the Santa Fe, this was the engine on his mind the most. Does your AT&SF railroad need some serious pulling power?

Can't forget about the 4460! Even if it's nickname is "the forgotten daylight". A big shoutout goes to volunteer Walter who gave Curtis a behind the scenes tour of this locomotive! Maybe add some Western Pacific GS-64's into the mix?

A big thanks to everyone who visited Curtis at the St. Louis RPM meet! Curtis had a fantastic time meeting many of you and gathered valuable information for future projects. Next up, Ken Silvestri will be at the NMRA meet in Long Beach, California! Ken will be there to answer any questions you have and to chat about trains with you.

Order deadline changes!

We recently announced a few changes to order deadlines for a few projects. So if you are looking to add to your order or haven't placed an order yet, now is the time to do so! Let's quickly go over a few of them. This one is coming up in just under 10 days!

We have an important update regarding our HO scale UP Business Car project (BLI Item Numbers 9012-9016). Initially, the order deadline for this project was set for October 17, 2024. Due to our factory being ahead of schedule with production, we must advance our order deadline to August 9, 2024. We now expect to have these models in stores in December 2024.
Please note that BLI will guarantee delivery on all orders placed before August 9, 2024. While we typically have some units available to order after the deadline, only orders placed by August 9, 2024 will be guaranteed.
Please contact your dealer today to secure your purchase today! These cars have been hot sellers so you don't want to miss out on these cars for your Union Pacific excursion train!
Our order deadline for our upcoming N scale E7's, E8's, and E9's have been extended to August 29th! You have just about a month to get your orders in to guarantee your models will be delivered when they arrive from the factory.
So contact your dealer today and place your pre-order! These units are available in Paragon4 and Stealth. Plus they have road specific details that will fit right in on whatever railroad you model! These locomotives are newly tooled and feature road specific details.
Same as the Kenefick cars, please note that BLI will guarantee delivery on all orders placed before August 29, 2024. While we typically have some units available to order after the deadline, only orders placed by August 29, 2024 will be guaranteed.

Samples and Renders:

Some of you have seen some of these renders on our social media already but we've got a lot more to share of our N scale E-Units! Don't worry HO Scalers, we've got samples to show you next! You can find more of these renders on our website under their respective project page.

Now up for you HO scalers! We've got some painted samples of our diecast metal EMD SD70ACe. These are pre-production models so details are still subject to change. These are expected to be arriving into stores in October!

Next up, 2926!  Here are the CAD drawings of the AT&SF 2900 Class Northerns for HO scale. These models are going to be Brass-Hybrids and will feature sounds recorded from Santa Fe 2926! These drawings are the first draft and many revisions are going to be made to the model between now and the time you place your order. It's important to remember these details are not finalized and are subject to change.

Finally, we have one more set of CAD drawings to share, the Union Pacific Bull Moose 2-8-8-0. We are building these locomotives as Brass-Hyrbrid locomotives. We are also going to be offering the locomotives as they appeared before and after 1944.

These photos are of the "Pre-1944" version of the Bull Moose. These are CAD drawings and details are subject to change.

These CAD drawings are from the "Post-1944" version of the Bull Moose. Like the other CAD drawings, details are still subject to change.

Delivery Schedule:

Here is our updates Delivery Schedule as of July 26th. Check back on our website for the updated status. As of right now the N Scale SD70ACe's have arrived to Los Angeles and are awaiting to be distributed.

Customer Q&A:

We've gotten a lot of questions from you guys on social media! We're going to cover a wide range of topics here so sit back, relax and enjoy the Q&A!

Q: "Can we get an update on the Class D 4 truck shay? I noticed it's been pushed back to the spring of next year on the delivery schedule." - Derek on Facebook
A:Thanks for the question, Derek! There are a few reasons why some of our projects get delayed. Most commonly, it's because we share a factory with two other manufacturers. When the factory isn’t working on one of our projects, it’s working on another manufacturer’s. Delays can pop up anywhere between the three companies who use the factory. We are always in communication with our factory to try and find ways to assist them to get the models produced and shipped on time.

Regarding the Class D Shay, a significant reason for the delay is that our designers and factory have been working on adapting the Shay’s design to navigate 18-inch radius curves. When we first announced the project, we received a lot of feedback from customers who model logging railroads with tight curves, and they requested the tighter radius. Good news, is that it is finished! We are awaiting a painted samples to evaluate and then they will go into production. When the samples arrive, we’ll be sure to share them on social media and in the next Flyer.

Q: "When should we expect another run of the E7/8/9s?" - Jackson on Facebook
A: We are assuming you are asking about HO scale versions of these locomotives. Unfortunately we don't have those in the works. N scale wise we are going over the next runs potential paint schemes. We have not finalized that list nor are we at a point to announce it for orders yet, but we are excited for N scalers to get their hands on these units!

Oh and incase you scrolled past it earlier in this newsletter, the N scale order deadline for our upcoming N scale E7's, E8's, and E9's have been extended to August 29th! You have just about a month to get your orders in to guarantee your models will be delivered when they arrive from the factory.

Q: "Any chance we can get a USRA 4-8-2 Mountain? Most railroads has some variant of it and I would love to see a prototypical Florida East Coast variant." - John on Facebook
A: We do not have these in the works at the moment. We feel the market hasn't shown us that the demand is there for these types of models yet. If we got more requests in our Product Suggestion Portal, then we might consider it! We have gotten more requests for road specific mountains such as the Frisco T-54 Mountains (aka Frisco 1522), Illinois Central's 2600 class, etc.

Q: "What factors drive the decisions for which roads get included and what fantasy schemes get made for a run of products? It sometimes seems like a fantasy scheme is made to fill out production requirements when there are railroads that would benefit massively from being included in a single run." - Tom on Facebook
A: Good question Tom! There are different factors that go into it. We get emails all the time from customers asking about a variety of fantasy schemes.  Each project has different examples. Some are for exclusives with distributors, others are just simply collector items that always sell out. This includes military themed locomotives, and some "what if" paint schemes. The best example for these are the many fantasy schemes we made for the Sharknose locomotives. In some instances fantasy schemes sell more than the accurate prototype models. Our HO scale PRR Business cars are the perfect example of that. It's not so much to "fill out production requirements", just simply other ways to offer unique models to our customers.

Q: "I've noticed the shipment date for the Q2 keeps getting pushed back. Any problems in production? Also do you have any digital renders of the Q2, specifically the tuscan version? Thanks! - BLI Conductors Club Member" Tay Tay on Facebook
A: First of all, thanks for being a Conductor's Club Member! The answer to this question is similar to the Class D Shay question we answered earlier. The factory that is making the Q2 is a shared facility, so when a project from one of our competitors gets delayed, it pushes our projects back too. It’s frustrating, and we are in constant communication with our factory to figure out ways to, as some railroaders say, "make up lost time." If a project is delayed, we will pay to airship it rather than sending it by boat. Rest assured, no problems in production. As for renders we do not have any at this time as we are nearly 100% sold out. Right now, the renders we are working on are for our next HO scale announcement which will come at the end of August.

Q: "With the huge, and may I add successful, reception to the U.P. #119, "Kenefick", what other Union Pacific Heritage Fleet cars are in the potential line-up from Broadway Limited? Would any support cars, like the Howard Fogg and Lynn Nystrom, or generator cars, like 2066 or 209, also be considered?" - Matthew on Facebook
A: Yes! We are actively working on several different cars. First is the "Fox River" Inspection car in both CNW and UP schemes with appropriate details. In addition to the "Fox River", Power Car 2066 is also in the works. We know others have asked about other road names for theater cars, and we can share that we are also beginning to collect data on the AT&SF/BNSF Theater Car "William Barstow Strong" and the CSX/Conrail Theater Car "Thomas Rice". We do plan at some point announcing one of the other business observation cars we have designed such as Lone Star/Lincoln, St. Louis, Cheyenne, and Feather River but we have not decided which one to do yet.

Q: "Any chance we might get the Rio Grande Zephyr cars produced? Would be nice to do the Prospector Baggage Dorm to complete the consist." - Roger on Facebook
A: We get asked a lot producing an entire passenger train set such as the Zephyr and daylight cars all the time. Simply put, the costs to tool an entire 10 or more car passenger train is simply too expensive for us at this moment. This isn't "no" for an answer, it's more so the timing for us just isn't right for us at the moment.

Q: "Will you plan to do lettered and unnumbered offerings of locos in the future? For example, lettered and unnumbered PRR S1." - Joseph on Facebook
A: Most likely not. The market hasn't proven to us that there is a need for it. Out of all the requests we get at shows, we maybe get asked about offering lettered and unnumbered offerings at most once a year. If there is a sudden swing where people want it, we'd consider it. Like most other manufacturers 99% of our customers want their model to be complete with lettering and road numbers applied out of the box.

Q: "Any updates on the HO scale sd70ace’s that are due later this year? Yall have been very very quiet besides the bare metal prototype model." - Kenneth on Facebook
A: Simply put, we've been quiet because we've been awaiting for samples. Which hopefully you saw above. We also have been testing the locomotives pulling power. We tested the bare metal prototype with an 80 car freight train. The locomotive pulled that train on flat track with no problems! Once it started hitting grades above 1.5% the locomotive stalled. However, once you add a second locomotive either as a double header or as a DPU, both locomotives had no problems moving the train.

Q: "Hello BLI, I'm eager to hear about the planned Bull Moose project (I believe I read about it in an earlier newsletter). Do you have any updates to share? Thank you!" - Zoltan on Facebook
A: Hello Zoltan! The Bull Moose is going to be announced sometime soon! We are awaiting some additional advertising materials and then they will be announced. They will be a Brass-Hybrid model available with Paragon4 Sound/DCC and Stealth. We have both locomotive types we will be offering, see the above CAD drawings for a closer look at the details. You'll find out more about road numbers we are offering when we announce the model.

Q: "Since you made UP Heritage Business Car “Kenefick” and maybe planning to make more UP Heritage Business Cars, are you or will you make a N&W Business Car #300 “Roanoke” in HO Scale?" - Cody on Facebook
A: We have thought about it. But have not began any data gathering or designing it yet. Right now we are committed to the UP  Heritage cars and other road names with Theatre cars.

Q: "Will the S1 be coming to n scale?" - 1up32 on Instagram
A: It's possible! We want to see what it can do in HO scale before we commit to designing it in N scale. We don't have any timeline as to when it'll be offered in N scale. Right now we are working on Baldwin Sharknose diesels and EMD GP30's for N scale.

Q: "Will there be any Mexican model soon? like the 4-8-4 of NdeM?" - gussierrar on Instagram
A: We'd love to offer it! NdeM has some really cool locomotives! However we don't think the market demand is there yet. If we got a lot more requests on our Product Suggestion Portal, then we might consider it! If we were to offer any Mexican locomotives, they would most likely come in the form of diesels before steam.

Q: "Will there be Harriman consolidations like UP 428 at the Illinois Railway Museum?" - ennzrr on Instagram
A: Never say never! We have not began gathering data or designing any Harriman consolidations, but we aren't opposed to looking into it if the market desires it. We've got other locomotives in the pipeline right now, so if we were to make the 428, it wouldn't be for several years unless the market for that locomotive picked up.

Q: "Will the t1 Berkshires be coming to n scale in the near future?" - 1950s_railfan on Instagram
A: Right now we don't have it planned for the near future. There are a lot of other steamers we have in the works right now for N scale Some that we think would be more popular than the T1 Berkshires. Like other times we've answered, the answer is not a no, it's just not right now. When that will be is hard to tell.

Thanks, everyone, for a great mailbag this month, keep them coming as always! As always for your continued support, and be sure to get your orders in before it's too late! As always, Happy Railroading!
