Customer Q&A: |

The last section of The Broadway Flyer is all about you—our amazing customers! Each month, we reach out through social media and email to gather your questions. This month, we received a great selection from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to feature in this section! Q: “Can we get some more Anthracite region steam like Lehigh Valley T class Northerns or K class Pacifics? Even more Reading power or even some CNJ power would be wonderful.” – James on Facebook A: James, we truly appreciate suggestions like this. We’re always open to new steam locomotive prototype ideas, especially from regions with such passionate followings like the Anthracite lines. As we’ve mentioned before, when we see strong and consistent market demand, we absolutely look into expanding into those prototypes. That’s exactly why our Product Suggestion Portal exists—it helps us measure real interest. When we see repeated requests both online and at train shows, it gives us the confidence to begin researching feasibility. At this time, the Lehigh Valley T-class Northerns and K-class Pacifics simply haven’t generated enough requests to justify moving into the next development stages. That said, continued interest absolutely helps keep projects like these on our radar. Q: “What are the odds of you guys making the Milwaukee Road class F7 4-6-4 Baltics in HO scale?” – Elizabeth on Facebook A: We’re definitely open to the idea. Projects like this always come down to timing, overall demand, and where they fit into our development schedule. When the time is right and the numbers make sense, we’d be happy to take a serious look at it. Q: “Would it be possible to do the Union Pacific concessions car?” – Ben on Facebook A: Thanks for the question Ben! We’re certainly open to producing additional Union Pacific business and support cars. At the moment, though, we have several other cars ahead of it in our production plans. We have to prioritize projects based on tooling schedules and demand, but it’s absolutely something we could consider as we continue expanding our passenger offerings. Q: “What are the chances of Chicago & Northwestern business cars to go along with Fox River?” – Rick on Facebook A: That’s a great question. The most likely Chicago & North Western business cars for us to produce would be ones that could share similar tooling or design elements with our current Union Pacific business cars—cars such as Lake Bluff and Lake Forest, for example. While we haven't designed those specific cars, it's an example of cars that we can get multiple uses of our tooling. That said, at this time we’re focusing more on specialty equipment like platform observation cars, tool cars, and other unique support equipment. While we aren’t actively working on those C&NW cars right now, shared tooling opportunities definitely improve the chances of something like that happening in the future. Q: “Are the Southern PS-4s going to still be their own separate project or will they be a part of the USRA pacific run?” – Bradley on Facebook A: It’s still a bit early for us to say definitively. We’re currently waiting to receive the finalized designs for our USRA Pacifics so we can review them thoroughly. Once we have those in hand, we’ll compare dimensions and design elements to determine how closely they align. One key factor is that the Southern PS-4 would require an accurate, newly tooled tender to be done properly. That alone could influence whether it becomes a separate project or is incorporated into the broader USRA run. We want to make sure we get it right before making that decision. Q: “When can we expect an official announcement for the rerun of USRA mikes and Pacific’s in HO scale? Will you be re-running the blue comet version?” – John on Facebook A: Thanks for the question John! We don’t have a firm announcement timeline just yet. We’re still making revisions to the Mikado designs, and we’re awaiting the Pacific designs from tour design team. Once those are finalized and we’ve reviewed tooling details, we’ll be in a better position to make an announcement. As for the Blue Comet version, there’s a very good chance it will be included in the rerun. We know how popular that scheme is, and we’d certainly like to bring it back. Q: “What about some parts for old engines, especially the N&W 2-6-6-4? I'd love to be able to fix mine.” – John on Facebook A: We completely understand—keeping older locomotives running is important. The best step is to reach out directly to our service department. Depending on which version of the N&W 2-6-6-4 you own, parts may still be available. Our service team can help with parts availability and general maintenance questions. You can contact them at techsupport@broadway-limited.com. They’ll be happy to assist you! Q: “What do you have in the pipeline in terms of four axle N scale diesel locomotives?” – Joseph on Facebook A: Hey Joseph! We’ve been spending time reviewing and refining our N scale GP35 project, and that continues to move forward. We also have GP30s actively in development. As we progress through design reviews and tooling discussions, we’ll share more details. We know four-axle diesels are a strong segment in N scale, and we’re excited about what’s coming. Q: “Will there be a Canadian Pacific version of your HO Theatre Observation Cars?” – Vuk on Facebook A: Great question, Vuk! We are currently exploring the possibility of producing Canadian Pacific’s Sandford Fleming. It’s a beautiful car and would make a fantastic addition to the lineup. We don’t have a timeline to share yet, but it’s something we’re actively evaluating. Q: “Any chance of making a McKeen motor car in the future for ho or n scale?” – Daniel on Facebook A: The McKeen motor car is definitely unique and eye-catching. At this time, we don’t have plans to produce one. As with many niche prototypes, it ultimately comes down to sustained market demand. If we begin seeing significant interest through our Product Suggestion Portal and at train shows, we would certainly take a closer look. Right now, however, the demand hasn’t been strong enough for us to justify the design and tooling investment. Q: “Where do the refurbished models originate before you sell them?” – Jackson on Facebook A: Models that appear in our refurbished store typically come from several sources. Some are consigned to us by families after a customer has unfortunately passed away. Others may have minor cosmetic imperfections—such as small paint blemishes or a missing detail part—that prevent them from being sold as new. We also occasionally receive models that were returned as “defective,” but after inspection by our service team, are found to be fully functional. Before any refurbished model is offered for sale, our service department thoroughly inspects it to ensure it meets our operational standards. We want buyers to feel confident in what they’re getting. Q: “Any updates on the timeline for AC-9’s and AC-12’s?” – @_lapines on Instagram A: At this time, we don’t have a timeline to share, as those models are still actively in the design phase. For all of our projects, a production timeline isn’t established until we finalize tooling discussions with the factory and are ready to make a formal announcement. We know there’s a lot of anticipation around these, and we’ll share updates as soon as we’re able. Q: “Would you consider making a 4-4-0 for the first time?” – @kylenaber on Instagram A: We would absolutely be open to it. The 4-4-0 is an iconic locomotive with tremendous historical significance. However, at this time, we don’t feel the overall market demand is strong enough to move forward with production. If we begin seeing increased interest through our Product Suggestion Portal and at shows, it would certainly move higher on our priority list. Currently, we receive significantly more requests for several other steam prototypes, so our development focus is aligned with those. Q: “Will BLI remake in die-cast locomotives once made in plastic?” – @keegantatum on Instagram A: In many cases, yes. For steam locomotives that require retooling—such as the USRA Pacifics and Mikados in HO scale—the plan is to move toward die-cast construction as part of that redesign process. Die-cast offers added weight and durability, which can improve performance and overall feel. As we rework older tooling, transitioning to die-cast is often part of delivering a more refined and updated product. |

Would BLI consider making PRR Passenger cars schemes like the Congressional or the Fleet of Modernism?
